The Sharp X68000 computer was first released in 1987, and it was discontinued in 1993. It had a service life of 6 years, and it was based on the Motorola 68000 cpu. The last model the Sharp X68030 was based on the Motorola MC68EC030 25 mhzs processor, the Motorola 68000 processors had a speed of 10 mhzs to 16 mhzs. The computer itself used the exact same Motorola processors as arcade cabinets from the mid 1980s to the early 1990s.

Date CPU Memory Hard Drive Sequence
March 1987 X68000 10 mhzs 1 mbs No Hdd First Model X68000
May 1993 Motorola MC68EC030 25 MHz 4 mbs 80 mbs Last Model X68030 Compact-HD

As you can see from the chart above, the Sharp X68000 went through some changes from March of 1987 to May of 1993. Even with all these changes, it was completely outclassed in 1993 by Intel 80486 and Intel Pentium processors. Ms-Dos was becoming the standard when it came to personal computers by 1989. In addition, after the release of 80486 processors in 1990 and Windows 3.1 in 1992, the personal computer with a Windows operating system and a Intel processor was going to be the industry standard. All the other formats, like Amiga, Sharp X68000, and others became outclassed and they vanished from the marketplace.

I don’t know when they developed the Winx68k Sharp 68000 emulator, but it was eventually introduced. This enables people to emulate it and see how it was like. The Winx68k emulator runs most Sharp X68000 games and programs, but at times you will come across programs that don’t run well. That happens with almost every emulator unfortunately.
